It's always Tau vs Imperial Guard or Tau vs Space Marine. But as far as I know, there isn't much on the subject. I feel this could be really interesting, because that would also show a glimpse of how advanced Imperial tech can be to the Tau, implying that Mankind was much, much more at some point, while the reaction to Xeno tech-heresy from the Mechanicus POV can be entertaining to read I believe. The Imperial Guard are the primary interplanetary defense force and offensive military organization of the Imperium of Mankind, consisting of untold billions of Imperial Guardsmen, light vehicles such as the Chimera transport and Sentinel scout walker, heavy tanks ranging from the potent Leman Russ main battle tank to the hulking monstrosity that is the Baneblade, as well as a number of elite. The Mechanicus probably has more shiny toys and fire power, but their bigotry can be exploited by the Tau to force them to send an absurd amount of ressources to defend a destroyed machinery instead of just abandonning it (saving the machine spirit and all). Of course, thoses similarities are, as I said, pretty superficial overhaul, but a fight between thoses two factions can, imo be really interesting if not horrendously written. Their infantry is equipped with a lot of plasma and pretty advanced weapons, they are actually using advanced techs and tactics, I think the Mechanicus is stated to monitor the battlefield and analyse datas on foes to allow their skitarii to fight better, and if they aren't really into researching new techs, the Mechanicus seems pretty practical-minded in term of battlefield and is able to adapt (with the Ordinatus weaponry, for exemple).
In term of combat, Tau and Mechanicus are pretty similar on a superficial level.
